Interview with Grandmom Wanda Sue
First Id like to introduce the Grandma Wanda Sue I know.
My grandma is currently 75 years old and has been a huge influence in my life. I saw my grandmother almost every day there for a while, even living with her for parts of my life. For as long as I remember, I remember my grandmother doing 2 things. Cooking a big southern meal and sewing. Id watch her hands move across the sewing machine with the needle hammering down and then she would clip the thread it was very relaxing to watch. She made me easter dresses, dresses for my first dances, halloween costume, my prom dress and so much more! I remember her being with me as a child and some of my biggest boo boo’s, I remember her letting me play in the mud and let me design dresses that she would later make no matter how crazy of an idea I had. summers we would spend gardening, breaking beans and shucking corn. My grandmother never asked for anything nice just spent her life for her kids and grandkids.
My grandmother was a huge joy in my childhood but sadly my grandmother didn’t always have a joyful life. My grandmother is very soft-spoken she grew up overweight and was viciously bullied for being chubby and she carried that with her to this day. She’s extremely shy and has low Self-esteem and always let that hold her back. As a child, people that should of loved her and protected her had actually hurt her. Breaks my hearts to think anyone could ever hurt baby Grandma Wanda Sue. She often speaks down about her self but sewing has always been her creative outlet! I try to reminder her as often as I can she is strong she is beautiful and she is worthy and an amazing artist! Thats why I proudly stood on that stage telling the world it was Grandma Wanda Sue that was behind my clothing! I tell her often the things my generation are Changing everything from the “Me Too” to Body Image and I cant help but feel several of us are inspired to stand up for not just for our future but inspired by our grandmothers and mothers after growing up herring their stories of the burdens they braved.
So now for the interview! ….
Thank you to everyone that has loved, respected and encouraged my grandmother over the years! She’s a beautiful talented lady and never got the true recognition she deserved till top model and it’s our followers that brought that joy to her! We will soon be launching a place to shop for small Wanda Sue designs to give a little money in the pocket of a women to has scarified so much for the people around her and who know maybe she will sell enough to get to go to Europe after all she did say “never give up because you don’t know whats around the Corner”
